Fire prevention activities aimed at reducing injury, death and property loss are managed by the Public Fire Safety Education Section. Activities include the distribution of smoke detectors, programs in the schools to educate youth and the dissemination of timely fire safety information to the public.
The Office of State Fire Marshal is part of the S.C. Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR). It and the South Carolina Fire Academy make up the Division of Fire and Life Safety, which is located on a 208-acre campus in Columbia.
